RESOURCE ALLOCATION TASK FORCE 06-09-2006 Participants: - T. Ferrari, M. Krakowian (EGI.eu) - T. Tzepienisz. M. Radecki, M. Szopa (CYRFONET) - F. Michel (LSGC) - A. Costantini (COMPCHEM) - O. Smirnova (NDGF) AGENDA: https://indico.egi.eu/indico/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=1852 DISCUSSION - Resource Allocation Procedure The task force comment the suggestion by Oxana about the need of having a early SLA negotiation process, in particular in those cases where offer of resources is not enough to meet the demand. TF: when a given request cannot be fulfilled, having various alternative options to choose before the SLA enters its negotiation would be useful to avoid that when a SLA is rejected (for whatever reason like partial availabilty of resources, non matching resource properties) the user can select an OLA option (if one is suitable) without retriggering the whole OLA negotiation process with the resource providers. TS: this will be considered for a development in Phase II of the mini project FM: some high level text going with the resource allocation procedure document is needed to explain the rational behind some workflow choices. ACTION (TS): refine the resource allocation process with new adjusted workflow diagram and with a overview section providing the high level view of the procedure. THis is useful in preparation to the TF13 meeting to present the procedure to the wide public. https://rt.egi.eu/rt/Ticket/Display.html?id=5996 - pool specification The task force discusses the meaning and usefulness of the concept of opportunistic storage. TS: What is the minimum duration of the allocation? TS: opportunistic storage is different from scratch space storage available on a WN. The duration in the SLA will define the availability of opportunistic storage for a user/VO TF: in the resource allocation/pool definition process we should allow resource providers to reclaim unused resources allocated to approved user requests. TS: for phase II of the mini project TS: other possible extensions to the storage attributes are . type of storage (disk vs tape) . backup (available or not available) . interfaces and protocols for accessing the resources (both compute and storage) ACTION (TF) finalize template pool specification, send mail to task force for review https://rt.egi.eu/rt/Ticket/Display.html?id=5997 - SLA specification The task force discusses the PL Grid current list of metrics. The list can be simplified and reduced in length to better reflect the pool specification of EGI The new specification should be available in September. ACTION (TF) to propose a new SLA set of metrics https://rt.egi.eu/rt/Ticket/Display.html?id=5998 - TF13 agenda 1. introduction process, goals, objectives 2. results, pool, processes and procedures -> for resource provider and user. Task force. 3. mini project status and demonstrators AC will take care of presenting (2)
