Notes from the 'Collaboration between XSEDE and the European Grid Infrastructure' session of the EGI Community Forum 2014 Helsinki, 22-May-2014, 11:00 Session website with slides: https://indico.egi.eu/indico/contributionDisplay.py?contribId=179&confId=1994 Notes taken by Gergely Sipos (EGI.eu) - WS-PGRADE - generic framework now supports submission to XSEDE (besides the many European e-infrastructures) * Access of XSEDE with BES JSDL or Unicore interface (2 options) * Production release expected before the summer * Best way of promoting this tool to new communities? IWSG-14 is too early. XSEDE-2014 - maybe? --> Gergely to monitor this and then consider inclusion in EGI-XSEDE BoF. 2014 Winter gateway workshop in the US - definitely a good place and time. - Application and workflow development for CMMST * Community specific --> SCI-BUS, MOSGRID, CMMST to follow up between each other * Guides and success cases are available on SCI-BUS website - Policies: What policies do the portal admin/PI has to know and apply? --> Bring the policies together from EGI and XSEDE and make them visible to portal administrators - Resource allocation for CMMST * Community vs per-user allocation - CMMST needs to find the best approach or mix * XSEDE Startup allocation is available for Malgorzata - John to be added as PI (50 & 30 k core hours) * WS-PGRADE prototype is now using a 'private' allocation that was arranged for SZTAKI by Andrew Grimshaw. * Production allocation is needed for the production use: This needs another PI and a review every 3 month. The PI has to be affiliated to a US institute. --> Antonio to work on this with the CMMST members * The PI needs to watch the resource burn-rate (in case of community allocation). The PI can monitor this in the XSEDE User Portal * The XSEDE portal has API to query resource consumption statistics --> SCI-BUS and CMMST consider showing these statistics (at the community or at a per/user level) in the SCI-BUS gateway. - Security - AAI for CMMST users * Opportunity to join EGI-robot accounting activity with XSEDE recommendations so the same solution could be implemented in the gateway for both infrastructures --> Contacts: Victor Hezelwood (vhazlewo@utk.edu), Diego Scardaci , Zoltan FARKAS * Not all ITGF certificates are accepted on XSEDE by default. If CMMST has members whose certificate is like that, then they should contact XSEDE at helpdesk@xsede.org --> Display this information on the CMMST gateway for the users - XSEDE User portal * Provides public information for everyone with an XSEDE portal account * Provides resource allocation-specific information for those who are granted with access by the PI --> Check what is the required authentication method here, and how this fits to the identities of CMMST users. Can they use the same ID in the XSEDE Portal and WS-PGRADE? - Next meetings: * Regular phone calls to be organised for the CMMST EGI-XSEDE project --> Gergely to initiate this (about every two weeks) * The meetings can cover additional topics too - Planning for EGI-XSEDE BoF session @ XSEDE-14: * Update on CMMST support activities * Try to include presentations by scientific communities from the US who would benefit from e-infrastructure support from Europe --> John and Gergely * Covering other collaboration topics that we had no time for in Helsinki, e.g. Helpdesk support for CMMST; XTED and AppDB; User support processes
