Engagement meeting

Europe/Amsterdam
Gergely Sipos (EGI.eu)
Description

This is a regular teleconference for the NGI International Liaisons, national/regional user community support teams and other stakeholders who are involved in EGI's Engagement activity.

The EGI Engagement activity reaches out to scientific communities and researchers in academia and industry and supports them in tackling scientific challenges using reliable and innovative ICT services and solutions from the EGI community. This requires coordinated outreach, technical support, training, testing activities - built on the distributed teams and skills that are available in EGI.

The EGI Engagement activity is defined and driven by the Engagement Strategy, which is described at http://go.egi.eu/engagementstrategy.

The NGI International Liaison (NIL) role is described at https://wiki.egi.eu/wiki/NGI_International_Liaison, alongside with resources and materials that can help the NILs be successful in community outreach and engagement.

Introduction (Gergely - See slides on Agenda):

  • Reminder about the NIL role and purpose of the NIL meetings.

  • New: handling of service orders from Website and soon from Marketplace

    • Most NGIs still don’t have a delegated person to deal with user service orders. Please contact Gergely to delegate someone. (can be a local user support email list too)

  • NIL Survey: Gergely sent this out to the NILs, most countries already responded, those who did not received a reminder from Gergely in late Sep/early Oct.

    • ACTION FOR NILS: Those who did not respond please respond ASAP.

  • Based on those who responded so far I prepared a map that shows the status of NGIs with respect to engagement activities. (slide 4)

Question Genevieve: why is FR, TR mentioned under Service Order?

Answer: Gergely: Only those two countries delegated service order contact so far. They are the positive examples. Other NGIs should still delegate someone.

Tracking EGI/NGI publications/Datasets with OpenAIRE (Giuseppe - See slides on agenda)

  • What is open access?

  • What is OpenAIRE?

  • Demo/example how to claim publications using openAIRE.

  • New claims available in a week

Genevieve: she sent info to EGI

Link between openAIRE and other repos. Avoid duplication of efforts.

Correct harvesting by OpenAIRE - automation. Not willing to do this manually.

Emir: they (Croatia NGI) are setting up a portal to connect databases with their internal one.  OpenAIRE connection seems relevant.

Next meeting in 2 months (early Dec). Doodle will come.

AOB:

Q: What is position of EG wrt DIRAC? (Emir)

A: It is under finalisation to become part of EGI service catalogue. (Gergely)

Q: Asking because the dirac.egi.eu page is blank/uninformative

A: I’ll check but probably because the page assumes X509 cert and VO membership. I agree this should not be like that and the landing page should be informative for any visitor. I’ll raise this to the service owner.
