Description

Data Science is an emerging field of science, which requires a multi-disciplinary approach and a new type of specialists that are capable to support all stages of the data lifecycle from data production and input to data processing and actionable results delivery, visualisation and reporting. The EDISON Data Science Framework (EDSF) provides a basis for defining customisable education and training of Data Scientists that could succeed in conditions of modern data driven research and the digital economy. The educational model and approach should solve different aspects of the future professionals that includes both theoretical knowledge and practical skills that must be supported by corresponding education infrastructure and educational labs environment. The EDSF enabled curriculum design includes the following stages: definition/selection of the set of required competences (based on professional profile or competences gap) together with the required proficiency level; extraction of the required knowledge topics from the competences definition; mapping to DS-BoK Knowledge Areas and Knowledge Units based on Learning outcomes defined by competences, - what finally defines the structure of the curriculum that further can be mapped to Model Curriculum Learning Units defined as individual courses and KAG related courses groups. This paper will discuss both aspects: of building customizable Data Science curriculum for different types of learners and proposing a hybrid model for virtual labs that can combine local university facility and use cloud based Big Data and Data analytics facilities and services on demand. The poster will illustrate the main EDSF components and how they can be used for customised curriculum and learning path design based on individual competences and knowledge assessment.

Summary

The poster will illustrate the EDISON Data Science Framework (EDSF) can be used for the customised curriculum design and learning path building based on individual competences and knowledge assessment. The proposed EDSF based educational model can guide the educators and future professionals on acquiring necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The proposed model can also define requirements to virtual labs environment that can combine local university facility and use cloud based Big Data and Data analytics facilities and services on demand.
