Description

From smartphones and credit cards to sensor-equipped buildings, the amount of data that surrounds us is increasing every second. The demand for experts capable of interpreting this data is increasing with it. These experts are the so called Data Scientist. These professionals cover the fields of statistics, software engineering and Machine Learning/Deep Learning, being one of the most interdisciplinary and requested profiles nowadays. We present an innovative Master Program on Data Science with a fully Open Science approach. The program is divided in three modules: Data Analytics, Data Engineering and Open Data. The Data Analytics module includes the latest tools and techniques to analyse and extract useful information from data. The Data Engineering module covers the different aspects of Data Management using both the most *classic* and the newest CLOUD technologies. Finally, even if the whole Master already follows the Open Science vision, one can delve further into it with the Open Data module. This module presents several Open Repositories and Portals and explains the latest methodologies on Data Preservation. One of the main aspects to be highlighted is the double perspective, both professional and academic, achieved in this Master. The faculty includes researchers from public institutions and from private companies, all of them working on the hottest topics in their fields. Six different Data Laboratories are offered at the end of the program on Bio-medicine, Social Sciences, Physics, Meteorology, Internet of Things and Economy. The aim of these laboratories is to show the students the day-to-day of the data experts in each of these domains of expertise, allowing them to solve real problems. When possible, tools and platforms developed within the context of European Projects are taught with examples adapted for educational purposes, providing an extremely useful benchmark for the integration and dissemination of these resources. The program also offers internships in research groups working on the topic of interest of the students for some months. In summary, this Master Program provides a holistic approach to the state-of-the-art methods in Data Science with an innovative structure, allowing the students from very different backgrounds to acquire the fundamental skills to become a competent Data Scientist.
