OSG/EGI/WLCG Interoperation - Technical and Non-Technical Operations Communication

14:35 - 14:55
Interoperation between distributed National Grid Environments requires both technical and non-technical communication. Indeed, this communication is paramount to successful inter-grid operation. OSG has a long history of interoperation with EGI/WLCG and previous European Grid projects. This presentation will be about the technical communication needed for GGUS ticket exchange, SAM availability messaging, BDII GLUE information transition, and other administrative data sharing. It will also look at the non-technical communication that takes place in various meetings, conferences, and via personal and email distribution lists. OSG/EGI/WLCG Interoperation and Communication will be discussed with a critical eye toward the future of interoperation between peering national grid infrastructures.

We present a description of the information systems used by the Open Science Grid (OSG) to obtain data that determines the state of the OSG and publish it to EGI and WLCG collaborators. The Berkeley Database Information Interface (BDII) is used to hold near real-time GLUE data describing the the state of OSG resources. The GLUE data is used for many purposes including job scheduling, status monitoring, topology presentation, storage location, and software availability searches. Also described is the Resource Validation System (RSV) that collects and publishes status monitoring information for OSG resources, including reliability and availability statistics. We also show how these systems serve to present information to the WLCG making the OSG appear as a National Grid Infrastructure (NGI) the top level WLCG BDII and the Service Availability Monitoring (SAM) systems.
