GreenDIGIT meeting with EGI sites and VOs

The EGI Foundation and 4 EGI members (CESNET, CNRS, CSIC, SZTAKI ) are involved in the new GreenDIGIT project. GreenDIGIT will work in the next 3 years on the lowering of the environmental impact of digital infrastructures. GreenDIGIT will benefit the EGI community, 3 other DIGIT infrastructures from ESFRI (SLICES, SoBigData, EBRAINS) and thematic ESFRIs with significant digital service capacities. 

This meeting is to introduce the GreenDIGIT project and the tasks that the EGI federation members will perform in it to interested EGI sites and VOs. During the meeting we'll discuss how EGI sites and VOs can help us reach the project objectives. The main areas of work in GreenDIGIT will serve as topics for our discussion: 
 

  • Performing a landscape study of green computing practices and policies
  • Defining/choosing metrics to track the environmental impact of (EGI) resources 
  • Establishing a reporting framework for these metrics towards workload managers and users 
  • Improving workload management practices to optimise community workloads based on environmental impact 
  • Providing good practice recommendations to sites, institutes and RIs concerning green computing
