The EGI Training Infrastructure
The demo will introduce the training infrastructure that has been recently established by EGI on the Federated Cloud, and will detail how this was so far used to train e-science. A training infrastructure was established in 2015 by EGI under the coordination of the EGI-Engage SA2.1 activity. The infrastructure was implemented in the form of a Virtual Organisation (VO) on the EGI Federated Cloud to serve face-to-face events, online training courses (Webinars, MOOCs) and self-paced learning modules. The training VO is integrated with the ‘per-user proxy factory’ solution of EGI to generate personal, but short-living proxy certificates in an easy way, for trainers and trainees. The infrastructure is built from different types of IaaS clouds in a federated way based on open standards and EGI technologies. This allows EGI to support a very broad spectrum of training cases: cloud-oriented courses, custom software courses, single-site scenarios, multi-site infrastructure usage, technology-specific courses, open standard based site access. Between March-July the VO integrated with 3 sites (BIFI, CESNET, UKIM) that together offer sufficient capacity for courses up to approx. 40 participants. A fourth provider is currently under integration. The setup was first used in July for two face-to-face training courses that focused on the use of the EGI Federated Cloud through the rOCCI client interface. The tutorials were delivered for multi-national audiences in the UK and NL and resulted in a reusable tutorial package about the standard-based EGI federated cloud. Further courses are already scheduled for October and November – including several at the EGI Community Forum. The demo will introduce the infrastructure, its usage models and the experiences gained during the events that used the infrastructure so far.
