In the demonstration we'll focus on how the Liferay web portal features can improve the user experience with the EGI collaboration tools (i. e., the back-office services such as the EGI webspace, Wiki, DocDB, Indico, Forum and the Request tracker). We'll showcase namely the ways and means of the Liferay web portal serving as a Content Management system to manage the main EGI web space including the EGI Blogs and other social features and its ability to manage ad-hoc VRC, VO, NGI or mini project websites within the EGI web space.
We would also like to take advantage of the Liferay web portal showcase to raise a discussion within the EGI community on what features are the currently used collaboration tools missing and should be implemented in the future.
Description of Work
Web portals, particularly Liferay based web portals, became the prime choice within EGI for providing user friendly access to infrastructure services. GLite, Unicore, ARC and desktop grid resources, as well as some of the operational tools are now routinely using Liferay portals. The first Liferay portals for EGI’s Cloud Platform are expected to become available during the fall 2013. The open source Liferay framework is also useful for the development of portlets that are portable across various portal frameworks.
The objective of the Liferay mini-project is a systematic evaluation of the Liferay capabilities including its social features. The expected outcomes of the mini-project are documented best practices and recommendations concerning the Liferay portal deployment for the particular purposes of the EGI community as well as a broader uptake of the Liferay for the NGIs, institutes or projects.
