Description

This webinar will describe the EOSC-hub proposal for a Technical Architecture for EOSC. The proposed architecture is based on the concepts of service composability and interoperability and aims to facilitate access to services, lower barriers to address complex digital needs, integrate data and services from multiple suppliers, support FAIR data and enable cross-infrastructure interoperability.

The architecture includes functions, interfaces, APIs and standards as technical concepts, with the final aim of fostering interoperability and, ultimately, service composability. It is
based on the concept of individual building blocks usable in fulfilling functions. Each building block is specified with the definition of a technical and interoperability specification that includes an high-level architecture, suggested EOSC standards and APIs and interoperability guidelines. Example of technical and interoperability specifications will be presented during the webinar.

About the Speakers

Diego is co-chair of the EOSC-hub Activity Management Board and member of the EOSC-hub technical support team, supporting research & innovation communities and projects for technology scouting, integration with EOSC-hub services and with the broader EOSC ecosystem. 

Diego works as Technical Solution Team Lead at the EGI Foundation. He supervises technical support activities in EGI with expert user groups and service providers. He is responsible for the definition and implementation of the EGI Technical Plans and for the definition of technical interoperability guidelines to foster the machine composability of services from different providers. Before joining EGI, Diego worked with INFN and in the R&D center of the Telecom Italia group. Diego holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science Engineering from the University of Catania.

Giacinto Donvito is Senior Technologist at INFN, Italy. He was the Technical Coordinator of the INDIGO-Datacloud project. He is the system administrator of the CMS and Alice Tier-2 computing centre at INFN-Bari since 2004. He has participated in all the EGEE and EGI projects and worked for several bioinformatics projects (BioinfoGRID, LIBI, BioVeL) gaining experience in supporting users from different scientific communities. He worked for the ReCaS project to test innovative solution for storage management and batch systems. In the PRISMA project, aiming at the implementation of a full IaaS+PaaS cloud solution for Public Administration and scientific communities, he led the WP taking care of implementing the IaaS layer. He has collaborated since the beginning with the EGI Fed Cloud Task Force to support the OpenStack-based INFN-Bari deployment. He was the technical coordinator eXtreme DataCloud EU project, and was involved as WP Leader for the implementation of a PaaS Layer in the DEEP-HybridDataCloud EU project. He is also INFN Representative for the italian Elixir and Lifewatch JRU. Now it is also acting as Technical Coordinator of the ReCaS-Bari Data Center (www.recas-bari.it), and as leader for the Compute Platform of the Elixir-IT node.
He is also involved as WP Leader in three National Infrastructure projects with the aim of implementing three distributed computing platforms for Scientific Applications (Physics, Elixir, Lifewatch) with an overall budget of 12M€.
