Description of the webinar

This webinar will give an overview of tried and tested approaches to federated operations, both at the level of the infrastructure as well as at the national level. It will cover the most important aspects and day-to-day work covered by staff - both at the international infrastructure level at EGI as well as at an example National Grid Initiative (NGI).  Example scenarios will be presented along with the tools used to deal with the scenarios. Finally there will be an opportunity for questions and discussions arising from the topics covered.

About the speakers

 

Matthew is the Service Delivery and Information Management Team Lead at EGI Foundation and has been delivering computing and data services to scientific research communities since 2003. Prior to joining EGI Foundation, Matthew was responsible for running the data archive for WLCG Tier 1 at STFC in the UK.  Matthew also developed the data access and storage services for the DIAMOND national synchrotron facility of the UK. Since joining EGI Foundation in 2015, Matthew has been involved in multiple projects developing and delivering services and has led the EGI Foundation Operations Team since 2017. Matthew holds a BSc Honors degree in Mathematics and Physics from Oxford Brookes University in the UK.

Alessandro works as Senior Service Delivery Officer at EGI Foundation and he is involved in the operations activities of the EGI Production infrastructure and in the software provisioning. He worked for 11 years at INFN in distributed computing projects (EGEE, EGEE2, EGEE3, EGI-Inspire) as part of the team coordinating the Italian GRID infrastructure, gaining a lot of expertise in the field, managing the central services and providing support to users and site-administrators and participating as teacher to several training events organised by INFN. In EGI Foundation he got the FitSM Expert and the ISO/IEC 27001 Foundation certifications, as well as the TF-CSIRT TRANSITS 1 one. He holds a Master degree in Physics.

João Pina is a computing researcher at the Portuguese Laboratory of Instrumentation and Experimental Particle Physics (LIP). He holds a PhD in Physics were he worked at CERN in the ATLAS detector Hadronic Calorimeter. In 2011 he joined the LIP advanced computing group were he holds a researcher position. He participated in several European projects related with distributed computing. Presently he is the NGI International Liaison for Portugal in the EGI e-infrastructure federation, he is the Regional Contact Point for the Iberian federation and leader of the EGI cloud middleware quality assurance group. In the EOSC-hub H2020 project he coordinates software release and configuration management.
