EOSC Workshop: EGI-powered Thematic Services in EOSC

  • Giuseppe La Rocca (EGI.eu)

Description

The EGI federation underpins many of the services of EOSC in different ways: providing compute and storage for hosting and scale-out; Enabling access via user authentication-authorisation; Monitoring service availability and reliability; Interfacing with Helpdesk, Marketplace and order management.
During the EOSC-hub project (2018-2021) the EGI federation worked with over 30 scientific community providers and empowered them in EOSC in these various ways, resulting in over 50 thematic services that are now accessible for open science via the EOSC Marketplace. The same route is followed since January in the EGI-ACE and EOSC Future projects, where over 20 communities are supported so far to make most of the EGI federation, to reach the functionality and maturity EOSC users require.

This workshop would introduce the most prominent support mechanisms that the EGI federation offers for EOSC Thematic Services, via real use cases that would be presented by scientific communities (providers of Thematic Services). The presentations would demonstrate the diversity of support mechanisms that EGI offers across technologies, countries and scientific disciplines. The session would be a showcase of some of the Thematic Services that were achieved in EOSC-hub, supported in EGI-ACE or EOSC Future. The presentations would show the impact of this work, ultimately demonstrating the impact of EGI on Open Science.

The session would be relevant for

  • scientific end users who want to see some of the most popular Thematic Services that are offered in EOSC.
  • service developers and providers to see examples of how EGI could empower and bring their setup into EOSC.
  • compute and data providers to see values in joining EGI and EOSC.
