Global task prioritization

Europe/Amsterdam
Description
EGI is organizing a workshop at the end of this month where different topics will be addressed, including the future evolution of the EGI global tasks. As you know, most of this are functions needed by the infrastructure operations. What does future evolution mean for us? It means: 1- discussing how the current global tasks will evolve in approximately 1 year time (after April 2014): how does the task need to technically evolve to meet the *new requirements* and to be run *more effectively* and possibly *at lower cost* for the community? what *new tasks* are emerging that need to be structured as a global task? 2- what is the *impact* of this envisaged evolution cost-wise? i.e. will the cost reduce, stay constant, or increase? 3- what is the *priority* of the task? The currently available funding for global tasks will likely reduce after April 2014, because of the end of EC funding currently provided through EGI-InSPIRE and of changes in membership fees at a council level. After discussion at the workshop all global tasks will have to be prioritized. I would like you to contribute with your input to this discussion with two actions. ACTION 1. Please provide your input on status and evolution of your global task at the following wiki page: https://wiki.egi.eu/wiki/SA1_EGI_Global_tasks_evolution (fill in your section) *DEADLINE* 25/01/2013 end of business day ==> I will summarize your input in my introduction at the workshop ACTION 2. Prioritization I have been requested to provide an initial prioritization of the global tasks according to the following definitions Critical. If this activity is not done, EGI will end in the short-term Degradation. If this activity is not done, EGI will degrade over time No Growth. If this activity is not done, EGI will not grow or expand in the future None. If this activity is not done, there will be no impact on EGI (e.g. activity performed by a partner external to EGI, activity not needed) See the attached draft prioritization (tab: Cost_Breakdown_ActivityandType, column G). Please ignore all tabs about costing, this just include data from PPT (effort claimed in PY2). Note that some tasks are broken down into several functions like coordination, support (i.e. execution of the task), maintenance, development etc. as applicable.
