Description

This hackathon will help users with trying out the CernVM FileSystem (CVMFS) and/or the Frontier Distributed Database Caching System (Frontier) with their own applications. An expert with these systems will advise users on whether their applications are a good fit and if so, help them adapt their applications to try CVMFS and/or Frontier.

Wider impact and conclusions

There are many more potential users and applications of CVMFS and Frontier. This hackathon will help users in the EGI community decide whether or not these systems will work for their applications, or help them gain experience if they have already decided to use them.

Description of work

Both CVMFS and Frontier work best on Redhat Enterprise Linux 5 or 6 based systems, where rpms and yum repositories are available. Root access to virtual machines with those operating systems available would be helpful, or we can login to systems that the users already have access to or create virtual machines in an IaaS cloud somewhere.
