Overview (For the conference guide)

SARA and BiG Grid, the Dutch NGI have been offering a HPC-cloud solution to scientist in the Netherlands for more than 2 years.
Since beginning of 2012 this infrastructure is fully available as production infrastructure.

As we are convinced that close collaboration with users has been a key factor in the succes of these facilities; we have invited our key users and HPC providers to participate in a strategy and vision workshop.

Conclusions

Description of the Work

We will set up a workshop where based on the practical experiences in the Netherlands, and of other invited participants we can elaborate on key services and directions for HPC-cloud services. The practical service offering needed and possible in 3, 6 and 12 months from now. Were different scenarios will be elaborated upon. These scenarios will take into account different aspects, such as; level of international integration; participation of commercial providers; integration with existing HPC infrastructures.

Impact

Aligning Cloud development efforts in the EGI era is a challenge that will have potential benefits for the scientific community. With the preparation and execution of this highly interactive workshop we will contribute to this ongoing effort with a practical overview of needed developments.
