Description of the Work

The VO representatives are fully engaged in all relevant meetings of their experiments and within the GridKa Computing Center. They are connected to the end users, the experiments' computing specialists and the GridKa operations team. Therefore they can address potential problems early on and ensure proper planning and implementation. They also take care of issues which need immediate and frequent interaction between the VO and computing center.
The experiment representatives actively participate in the administration and operation of experiment specific services at GridKa and provide monitoring tools for these services. As the three representatives work closely together and discuss their relevant topics with each other, they are capable of quickly detecting problems which affect several communities and resolve incompatibilities between their different requirements.

Impact

For the GridKa computing administration team, the VO representatives are the first point of contact in everyday operational issues concerning their respective VOs. For the experiments, they are the first point of contact for on-site technical issues and problems. The experiment representatives resolve issues in cooperation with the experts within GridKa and the VO. They also follow-up problems on the mid and long term. Their work helps to speed up processes, to solve problems quickly and to avoid unnecessary issues.

Overview (For the conference guide)

The GridKa Computing Center at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is one of the biggest Tier-1 centers for the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid and one of the major resource providers in NGI-DE.
In 2010, three positions of local VO representatives were established. The representatives' duties are to represent both their respective LHC experiment at GridKa and GridKa within their respective LHC experiment. This presentation will focus on the representatives' technical and communication tasks and their experiences gained.

Conclusions

Both experiments and GridKa very much profit from the representatives' work. Their proactive support and their detailed knowledge of the different aspects and views improved communication and effectiveness of services significantly. On-site representation of large communities at
major grid centers is highly advisable.
