Description
Collaborative Computational Project Number 4 (CCP4) is a community resource, hosted by STFC UK, which aims at maintenance, distribution and development of software for macromolecular crystallography. CCP4 user base is estimated at 20,000 individual researchers, and includes both academic and industrial sectors.
In addition to the traditional methods of software delivery, CCP4 actively looks for new modes and trends in computational practices present in research community. Having a clear user's interest to remote, server-based setups, which would be capable of storing experimental and derived data, as well as whole projects and workflows and give access to computational resources needed for automatic structure solution, CCP4 initiates a project on providing CCP4 Software in a cloud-type setup. These plans have been approved for funding by BBSRC, and the corresponding activities start now.
In my talk, I will outline our motivation and formulate user's and technical requirements for CCP4 Cloud project. I will also present our preliminary plans and approaches that we investigate.
