Description
Volunteer computing remains a largely untapped opportunistic resource for the LHC experiments. The use of virtualization in this domain was pioneered by the Test4Theory project and enabled the running of high energy particle physics simulations on home computers.
Recently the LHC experiments have been evaluating the use of volunteer computing to provide additional opportunistic resources for simulations.
In this contribution we present an overview of this work and show how the model adopted is similar to the approach also used for exploiting resources from the EGI Federated Cloud.
