Description

The 'Designing new pan-European e-infrastructure services workshop' will take place on the week of the 2nd of November in Amsterdam, during the EGI Conference 2020. The exact date of the workshop will be defined closer to the date, as part of the EGI Conference (Nov. 3 is indicative in the header of this page).

This one-day interactive workshop aims to assess e-infrastructure solutions and technologies, with the goal to bring new services into the EGI Service portfolio.

The workshop brings together software developers, service providers, technology experts and service management experts from EGI members and EGI partners with the goal to present technologies and tools, to analyse the proposed solutions in small groups, and to facilitate their addition in the form of new services into the EGI service portfolio. The workshop will make use of the FitSM service design and transition concept.

During the workshop:

  • Participants will hear short introduction talks about existing EGI services.
  • Selected technology experts and providers will introduce their proposals for new pan-European e-infrastructure services.
  • Attendees will form small groups to analyse the proposed solutions and to define/design validation scenarios and configurations for delivery to e-infrastructure user communities.

The main outcome of this workshop will be initial assessment of new e-infrastructure technologies as well as plans for detailed assessment of new technologies in collaboration with international user communities.

How to apply - Technologies and services

The workshop is inviting technology/service providers before the 31st of August to propose their technologies/services for inclusion in the workshop. Selected technologies/services (approx 5 to 7 services/technologies) will be featured during the event (presented and analysed). Proposals can be submitted via this form ('Submit new abstract' button at the bottom. Choose 'New service' as contribution type). The abstracts must include the following information (in max. 500 words):

  • Name of main contact
  • Description of the proposed service/technology
  • Current use
  • Benefits for international use
  • Motivation to apply
  • Any other relevant detail

What will we get out of the workshop?

  • Initial assessment of new e-infrastructure technologies
  • Plans for detailed assessment of new technologies in collaboration with international user communities.
  • Answers to participants' questions concerning EGI services and service management process.
  • Better understanding of the participating technologies/services.
  • Social network formed between technology developers/providers and e-infrastructure providers.
  • Gaps in e-infrastructure offerings, and service candidates to fill these gaps.
  • Connections among e-infrastructure communities.

The workshop is organised for

  • Technology and service providers. Selected providers will present their technologies/services and will engage with EGI members and user communities the break-out sessions of the afternoon.
  • E-infrastructure providers. They will support the technology/service providers in the analysis of their offerings, and mapping those to the EGI service management system.
  • Scientific project, research infrastructures and research communities and groups who would like to access new e-infrastructure capabilities via EGI.
