Webinar: e-Infrastructure in Europe: Attributes and Metaphors for Diffusion

Europe/Amsterdam
Description

In recent years, we have seen an exciting and inspiring increase in the number of services building on developments in e-infrastructure and EOSC. At the same time, we also observe the bottelnets of service adoptions. We see a difference in services in attracting new users -- while some services are very successful in finding new users, others don't. What are the key aspects influceing users to adopt a new service? What are the key aspects to have successul collabrations for service developments? How better to communicate a new complicated concept such as e-Infrastructure and EOSC with our communities?

In this webinar, we will discuss recent research on the diffusion and adoption of e-infrastructure services within the EGI context. A similar analysis has been conduct in the US XSEDE context. We discuss our previous work, new pilot data in the EGI context (collected in collaboration with EGI) and present an outlook on future research challenges.

He is the director of the Organizing, Communication and Technology (OCT) Group. Recently, he has published on attributes driving adoption and diffusion of e-science tools and on organizational attributes of successful science gateways

Dr. Christian Burgers (Ph.D., 2010, Radboud University Nijmegen) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His research focuses on the relationship between language, cognition and communication, and in particular how figurative language like metaphors can be used in sensemaking of complex and abstract concepts. He is a member of the Management Team of the Metaphor Lab Amsterdam. Recently, he has published on using metaphors to conceptualize societal change and on the role of metaphors in public debates

Ellen Droog (MSc, 2017, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) is a Researcher in the Department of Communication Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She studies how language is used to conceptualize e-infrastructure in organization and media settings, supervised by dr. Burgers and dr. Kee.
